Upma – From the kitchen of Anju Poddar
Serves 6 people
Ingredients:
- 200 grams of semolina / suji
- 2 twigs of curry leaves
- 1 finely cut onion
For Seasoning:
- 1 tsp Black gram dal / Urad dal
- 1 tsp mustard seeds / rai
- 2 tsp ghee
- 1tsp cut green chillies
- 1 tsp cut ginger
Method:
- Heat 3 cups of water keep it aside.
- In the pan pour ghee, add urad dal, rai, ginger, green chillies, cut onion and curry leaves….when the onions are slightly brown reduce the flame and add suji..slightly roast the suji
- add the boiled water to the suji, pour some salt to taste and then cover it for 5 minutes.
Serve it with coconut chutney.
Upma – From the kitchen of Prema Badiga
Serves 6 people
Ingredients
- 200 grams of semolina / sooji
- 6 cashew nuts
- 2 twigs of curry leaves
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 finely cut onion
For Seasoning:
- 1 tsp Black gram dal / Urad dal
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds / rai
- 2 tsp ghee
- 2 slit green chillies
- 1 tsp cut ginger
Method
- Lightly dry roast on medium flame and keep it aside.
- Heat 3 cups of water, ½ cup of milk and keep it aside.
- In the pan pour ghee, 6 cashew nuts, fry them and keep them aside.
- In the same ghee, add urad dal, rai, ginger green chillies, cut onion and curry leaves.
- When the onions are translucent add the sooji in it.
- Add the boiled water and milk to the sooji, pour some salt to taste and then cover it for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes remove the cover, turn it upside down 2-3 times, cover it back and cook for 2 minutes.
- Serve it with coconut chutney.
