Tamarind Mustard Rice – From the kitchen of Parvathi Badiga
To serve 6 Persons
Ingredients
Rice – 1/4 kg
Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
Tamarind paste – 2 tbsp
Ground nuts – 1tbsp
Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp
Green chilli -4
Red chilli -4
Mustard powder – 1 tsp ( can be adjusted acc to taste )
Curry leaves
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Jaggery – 1/2 tsp
Hing- 1/4 tsp
Method
Can use mustard oil ( if strong mustard flavour is needed) or can use sesame oil .
Heat oil add all above ingredients except ginger and Bengal gram and fry for 5 mins till tamarind paste is cooked. Keep aside
Soak Bengal gram and rice separately for 1 hour.
Add Bengal gram to boiling water and cook for approx 6 mins then add rice and cook it together.
Cook rice. Make sure it’s not too soft. Keep aside .
Mix the tempering with the rice and add grated ginger.
