PalakKandi Papu – From the kitchen of Prema Badiga

Ingredients

  • 1 cup red gram dal / tuvar dal
  • 3 cups of water
  • 4 bunches of spinach
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 ginger
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds / jeera
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds / rai
  • 4-5 dried red chillies
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tomato
  • Pinch of asafoetida / hing
  • 2 twigs of curry leaves
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tspn coriander leaves / dhanya powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 bunch of coriander leaves
  • Method

  • Soak the red gram dal in the pressure cooker with 3 cups of water for two whistles. Keep it aside.

  • Heat the oil in a pan, add jeera, rai, dried red chillies, cut green chillies, paste of garlic, curry leaves, ginger, cut onion, cut tomato, coriander leaves, turmeric powder, salt, and then add the cut spinach to it.

  • Keep it covered and cook it on a medium flame for 6-7 minutes.

  • Add the red gram dal to this batter, then add 1 tbsp of desi ghee (not dalda ghee) and sprinkle cut coriander leaves on the top.
