Bandhej is the name given to the tie and dye fabric of Jamnagar, Mandvi and Bhuj. The art of bandhej is known for its typical designs and patterns. These are often used in wedding outfits when they are called gharchola odhni and sarees.
Matani
Matani or more popularly called MataniPechedi or Mata-ni-pachedi are made by the Vaghris for the purpose of various rituals. They employ a combination of block printing for the outline of the pattern as well as the painting of the mordants.
Patola
The making of a Patolu is a creative process envisaged in the mind of the weaver as tie and dye work is undertaken both on the warp and the weft threads.
Ashavalli Sarees
This ancient city was earlier known as Ashaval, from which the tearm ashavali for hand women fabrics appears to have been derived though the antiquity of the town has not yet been confirmed, its geographical location has been established.
Ajrak
A remarkable feature of Ajrak printing is that on a single fabric, using the same design, resist printing is combined with other printing and dyeing techniques. The whole process is repeated on both sides of the fabric in perfect cohesion, which calls for unsurpassed skill. Ajrak uses mud-resist in the various stages and another unique feature is that the dyeing and printing is repeated twice on the fabric to ensure brilliance of colour.
